Mystery Tour ~ June 1

Bible Study: Hebrew 1:4

Let me begin by stating Mercury is a fun substance. I broke a thermometer when I was little and the silver liquid  was all over the place. But the stuff is so cohesive it was soon drawing itself back together-like in Terminator 2. Of course mercury is a neurotoxin…

We often do strange things. Take the new CFL light bulb. It has been touted as not only energy saving, but with global warming, it has been deemed world changing! Yet CFL’s contain mercury (click here for details). Which means cleaning up broken bulbs requires pages of explanation by the EPA (randomly it specifically states “DO NOT allow children to help…” which could explain so much about me!). It also means you can not throw the bulb away; instead, you should take them to special recycling centers… So our world saving product is also destructive!

When humans try to do things on our own terms we can get a part of it right. But we also build destruction. Take a look at the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:2-10). They both brought gifts to God; yet, Cain held back the best for himself. He tried to both serve God and himself, but the end was destruction.

¤ After reading Genesis 4:2-10, why was Cain’s offering less than Abel’s gift?…

¤ Of course we do not bring animals or wheat to sacrifice, but what offerings do we bring to God?…

¤ Specifically, what have you given to God?…

On a more positive note, soon we will have LED light bulbs and no longer worry about mercury the neurotoxin! Of course the price will have to come down… the pictured bulb costs $60!

We left with Joy on the bus and drove and drove… (click on the pics to enlarge!)

And then the bus threw a belt…

Ivy tried to drive away, but even she couldn’t get the bus to move…

Keith tried to push…

It began to remind us of Lord of the Flys…

But soon we were back on the road

And with Keith’s amazing leadership…

we were able to lead in worship!
