On Wednesday I mentioned how we can often relate to the main characters in books. I used Bella from Twilight, saying, “The girls can relate to the heroine in the story…”

Of course at that point everyone appeared a little startled, until Daniel Willingham** cleared up the confusion by announcing, “you mean “her-own-E”. I tried to explain that heroine is pronounced just like the drug, heroin… to which multiple people said, “oh, we thought you were talking about drugs”…

Sometimes we make things way too complicated. This is especially true in the church, where we have rituals and huge theological words, and things are different from church to church. What is a Christian supposed to do? But for all the words, it is really very simple, as Christ says, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt 6:33) Focus on seeking God and you find that you have done what others only talk about-that you are the bride of Christ, the heroine of the story… or should I say her-own-E? …

** Props to Daniel for being one of the few (the only?) person to have a clue what I was saying!
