Hearing

It is not that other lights are so bright, “but that the flickering candle of Christian formation was so dim.” — David Brooks, NYTimes

Writing this blog, I occasionally have random people contact me. I shared in a recent message about a call from a “pagan” who praised my writing (I tempted her to go to church!). But generally I get the opposite comments.

Most recently I got an email from someone condemning my writing, “may GOD have mercy on your soul!” Thankfully, I wrote in my reply, “praise be to Jesus He is a merciful God.” But the emailer’s point was that I am on the wrong side of the great battle of Good and Evil. He shared links and quotes, paragraphs of information. But nothing from scripture.

So in my response I challenged him to spend time in prayer and scripture. I wrote, “I agree with you, there’s a great battle between evil and good. But we will not learn which side to join through doctor testimonies or media outlets or social media (censored or not). Only through scripture and prayer. Opening our hearts and listening to the will of the Lord of the world.”

I thought he might respond with scripture, but he didn’t. Only more links and quotes. More condemnations. So I again urged him to prayer and read scripture.

How often we debate sources… Left vs Right. Mainstream vs fringe… but do not consult The Source. God is speaking and leading us in everything that is happening today. Never say scripture doesn’t speak to a current event. Sure many things are not literally spelled out. But when the Spirit breathes over the pages the words become “living and active”! They cut through the darkness of this world and bring the light of life.

But when the light is dim it is easy to be lead astray.

So make every effort to KNOW God. And to live the knowledge of the Lord. It will answer every problem and can save every person!

Isaiah 11:6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’snest.
They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. (How does all this happen? Because the world KNOWS God!) ***

This Sunday we start a new series titled Hearing through the Noise. We begin in 1Kings 19, Elijah on the mountain. I hope you join us at 10:30, in person or streaming on Facebook and Youtube!

*** Random: People wonder if animals will be in Heaven. I suppose Isaiah 11 might be symbolic (powerful and weak people), but I believe all of the world will be healed… which would make this literal. And like to image it that way – partly so I can have pet Tiger. 😉
